Apart from Hockey Park, there is a lot going on in The Hague itself. The heart of The Hague is being turned over to sport, culture and politics when the open space next to the Dutch parliament becomes The Hague Hockey Square. The Hockey World Cup will be celebrated for the entire two weeks of the tournament with free cultural, sports, educational and culinary events. The square will host the finals of the street and company hockey events and there will be live performances on stage and cooking workshops from top Dutch chef Pierre Wind.
Many of The Hague’s hockey clubs are organising different side events.
The main venue for the World Cup is the Kyocera Stadium, home of The Hague’s football club ADO Den Haag. This modern stadium, opened in 2007, has seating for 15,000 supporters. The building has four well-equipped business clubs and 40 business units with extended catering facilities. Two large outdoor screens will be placed in the stadium especially for the World Cup so fans can follow the action in detail.
The World Cup restaurant La Place offers fresh and natural food, prepared while you wait. The company only uses pure ingredients and sources local and organic products where possible. Deliveries take place early every morning so visitors to the Rabobank Hockey World Cup will also be able to enjoy the freshest possible food. The menu includes delicious stir-fries, various freshly-prepared pasta dishes, cakes and sandwiches. The daily special will focus on traditional food from a different World Cup country.
The Business Village is the place where companies, sponsors and partners can welcome their guests in a unique World Cup setting. The Business Village is a large, u-shaped building divided into business units for 12 to 48 people and marquees for groups of 50 or 100.
In addition, the World Cup Lounge is a central networking area for KNHB partners and sponsors and their guests. Event partner Rabobank has its own lounge in the Business Village – the Rabo Hockey House.
Business Village access is by invitation only.
Everyone, whether young or old, is welcome in the Sublime FM Music Lounge which is open from early morning to late at night. Enjoy a drink and relax by listening to music (jazz, soul, funk, Latin and lounge).
The Sublime FM radio station will broadcast World Cup news and debates led by Dutch television presenter Bas Westerweel and featuring former Dutch internationals Fatima Moreira de Melo and Sylvia Karres.
Chess players can even take part in the daily simultaneous exhibition match organised by the Dutch chess association. Dutch and international newspapers and magazines will be available on the NRC reading table.
On the second floor, you can enjoy dinner in the OSeven restaurant.
The Hockey Plaza is close to the entrance of Hockey Park and features lots of different hockey-related stands and events. Adidas and Dita will be there, selling clothing, sticks and other hockey-related products. You can also pick up your World Cup souvenirs, such as a cuddly Stockey mascot or a t-shirt. Different hockey-related activities will take place throughout the day on the two mini pitches.
The GreenFields stadium has a capacity of 5,000, including 1,000 seats in the covered stand. The GreenFields Stadium takes its name from the special GreenFields artificial turf which has also been laid in the Kyocera Stadium. In addition, there are changing rooms, showers and accommodation for officials. GreenFields is part of Dutch company Koninklijke Ten Cate, worldwide market leader in artificial turf and a partner of the Dutch hockey association KNHB.
Visitors might be surprised to find a massive greenhouse in the heart of the Hockey Park. However, the greenhouse project is a key part of the Dutch hockey association KNHB’s efforts to stimulate a healthy diet - particularly in the sports club canteen. Greenhouse horticulture is concentrated in the Westland part of the Netherlands and local growers will be on hand to tempt international visitors with fresh, delicious and healthy fruit and vegetable snacks.
The greenhouse will host special interactive events for children and there will be conferences and workshops about the importance of good food and healthy alternatives for club canteen cooks.
The Westland Greenhouse project has been realised with the help of the Westland Marketing Foundation and the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.
