"The highly anticipated game between host nation Netherlands and Australia was the evening game of day seven of the 2014 Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup. Current Olympic champions the Netherlands started the game being pinned back by the Australian offense, and keeper Joyce Sombroek had to make an amazing save in the 9th minute to keep the Hockeyroos at bay. Neither team could force a goal before the break and the half ended 0-0. The second half was as tense as the first and the Dutch were guilty of wasting a couple of penalty corner chances when Maartje Paumen didn't hit the target with her shots. Kelly Jonker then missed a deflection right in front of goal from a Kim Lammers pass. Almost immediately, Australia missed a golden opportunity to score through Ash Nelson. The Netherlands then raced down the other end of the pitch and Kim Lammers deflected in a pass from Jonker to make it 1-0 in the 57th minute. Naomi van As put the Oranje up 2-0 in the 65th minute after a hopeful video referral from the Australian team. The quality of the Dutch team was enough to ensure they prevailed with the win and secure a place in the semi-finals.
