The start of the game was balanced and produced very little scoring opportunities with only two shots on target coming from Korea after 20 minutes. Korea finally broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute through a field goal from Kim Jong-eun and the game went into the half time break at 1-0. It only took two minutes from the restart for Japan to make the score 1-1 from their first penalty corner of the tournament with Shihori Oikawa finishing from the top of the circle. Both teams then had good chances saved as the game opened up. Korea ended the game putting a lot of pressure on the Japanese defence, but could not find a way through to win the match and keep up with Australia and the Netherlands at the top of Pool A.
