Day 8 in the Rabo Bank Hockey World Cup 2014 is a key day for teams in Pool B. Germany take on New Zealand in a must win match for the reigning Olympic champions as they look to qualify for the Semi Finals. The Germans took an early lead thanks to a well struck Florian Fuchs shot deflected off the bottom of the cross bar. Benedikt Furk won a penalty stroke, but the resulting shot was sent high over the New Zealand goal by Christopher Zeller. The Germans went on to double their lead thanks to a great individual goal from Martin Zwicker, 2-0 after 31 minutes. The Black Sticks pulled a goal back in the closing minutes of the half, Andy Hayward clinically finishing a penalty corner, but that wasn't the end of the drama for the first half as Christopher Zeller found the net from a German penalty corner to give the reigning Olympic champions a 3-1 lead at half time. The second half started in the same way as the first ended, with the 4th German goal coming in the 40th minute Martin Zwicker turning one in on the far post. Benedikt Furk scored the 5th goal with a well struck shot deflected in off the keepers stick. But the Black Sticks weren't going quietly; a second half brace of penalty corner goals from Andy Hayward sealed a hat-trick for him and salvaged some pride for New Zealand, 5-3 the final score.
