New Zealand vs Netherlands - Men 10 June 2014

"Host nation the Netherlands went into their last Pool B game against New Zealand knowing they could climb above Argentina at the top with a win or draw. The Dutch side took only eight minutes to take a 1-0 lead with Valentin Verga finishing a reverse stick effort. In the 25th minute, the Netherlands thought they had increased their lead but a Seve van Ass goal was ruled out after a video referral showed the ball brushed his foot. New Zealand came close to an equaliser early in the second half but Alex Shaw could not stretch far enough to get his stick onto a pass into the circle. It took a great piece of individual skill from Simon Child to put New Zealand level at 1-1 in the 63rd minute when he skipped past three tackles, swivelled, and fired past the keeper. The Dutch couldn't find a winner and the draw meant they had to settle with second place in the group and will face Australia in the semi-finals.
