"The host nation went up against New Zealand in the evening match of day 5 of the Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup. The Dutch made a blistering start and scored from their first penalty corner in the 4th minute with Carlien Dirkse van den Heuvel getting the deflection in front of goal in her 100th game for her nation. The Netherlands were completely controlling the game and New Zealand keeper Sally Rutherford was kept busy and had to make a number of great saves. It took a fantastic angled deflection from Kim Lammers to make it 2-0 to the Oranje with five minutes until half time. The confident Dutch girls continued to control the game in the second half and peppered the goal with shots. Stacey Mitchelsen tested the Netherlands keeper with a powerful shot which was well saved in the Black Stick's best chance of the half. Xan de Waard then unselfishly passed to Kelly Jonker on a breakaway when she should have shot herself, but the 2-0 advantage was enough for the Netherlands to take all 3 points.
