South Africa vs England - Women 6 June 2014

"England and South Africa went head to head in their third match of the 2014 Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup. Both teams knew this game was a must win after they both lost their first two games, and England got off to the better start with Lily Owsley hitting the post within 5 minutes. However, South Africa took the 1-0 lead after 17 minutes through Kathleen Taylor reacting quickest during a scramble in front of goal. Sulette Damons then scored on her 150th appearance for her nation to take the score to 2-0 with a world-class finish. After England were temporarily reduced to 10 due to a green card, South Africa took advantage to go 3-0 up in the 40th minute with Shelley Russell with a lobbed deflection at the back post. Dirkie Chamberlain made it 4-0 to South Africa in the 53rd minute to effectively put the game to bed. England pulled a consolation goal back two minutes later through Nicola White, but South Africa prevailed over the number 3 seed to score their first win of the tournament.
