"Round 4 of Pool B of the 2014 Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup began with the clash between Germany and the USA. Germany dominated the early stages of the game and created more chances, but the USA eventually wrestled their way into the game and took a 1-0 from a counter attack in the 33rd minute through Kathleen Sharkey. The USA picked up where they left off in the second half and Caroline Nichols converted a penalty corner in the 39th minute to put her nation up 2-0. Things went from bad to worse for Germany three minutes later and they found themselves 3-0 down when they gave Katie Reinprecht acres of space to fire home a shot. The USA didn't sit back and scored their fourth goal when Kathleen Sharkey was gifted the ball by a German defensive error and she finished fantastically. Kristina Hillmann pulled a goal back for Germany in the 59th minute but the 4-1 score line was enough for the USA to end Germany's hopes of a semi-final place.
