The Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 is more than top-class hockey. The World Cup has a wide variety of activities, both around the stadium and definitely also in and around The Hague. During the tournament The Hague will be the hockey capital of the world for two weeks.
Connecting themes
Sport connects international culture. Music and food also have these connecting characteristics. Therefore we will organise different activities around these themes during the World Cup, thus creating an event where everyone feels welcome. Each day a participating country will be put in the centre of attention with music and food from that country. A guarantee for an international exposure and experience of a special tournament.
Events
In the entire region there will be different side events during the tournament, such as:
- Beach hockey on Scheveningen Beach
- School hockey, corporate hockey, veteran hockey and clinics at local hockey clubs
- The 'The Hague Hockey Square' near the Binnenhof; with a hockey competition for embassies and politicians, a children’s competition and large video screens enabling everyone to watch the matches
- A broad range of cultural activities and entertainment throughout the city of The Hague.
Dutch player Robert van der Horst:
“The World Cup in The Hague is the trending topic among the players and staff of the Dutch team. To play in a sold-out stadium is a tremendous feeling! In 1998 I was a spectator myself, thirteen years old, front-row seat. I can still remember the winning penalty corner, that they were piling up on top of each other and that we were World Champion. That’s what I wanted as well, I dreamt of it. And the fact that my parents told me that we were actually on the fifth row is of no importance. That was the intensity of my experience.”
